(Laurel, MD) 2007— MEDS Publishing is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2007. MEDS is one of the only remaining nurse-owned and operated companies producing academic resources and services for nursing educators and students today.

MEDS Publishing was founded in 1982 by Patricia A. Hoefler, RN, MSN, who was an educator at Georgetown and George Mason Universities. While teaching at-risk students she discovered the need for quality coaching, mentoring, and remediation products, all of which were rare with the industry’s emphasis on standardized testing and memorization.

Innovation has always been a big part of the MEDS mission. Ms. Hoefler was the first to publish a test-taking book for nursing students, and her computerized Q&A programs with in-depth rationales hit the market a year before the NCLEX was computerized. MEDS Publishing was also the first company to hold test construction workshops for nursing educators, an effort it still upholds today.

In addition, MEDS’ products highlight a unique methodology that involves learning and applying critical thinking and test-taking skills. These products are also designed to increase student accountability and efficiency through precise tracking capabilities.

In 2006, MEDS began offering resources with continuing education (CE) credits for educators, which was an important step forward in supporting nursing educators. Recently, MEDS has modified and added to its programs in accordance with the NCLEX changes taking effect in April of 2007.

For the past 25 years, the company has combined cutting-edge technology with a learning methodology that has stood the test of time to assist nursing educators and students. Reaching this new milestone is a testament to the dedicated work of the MEDS team.
