Distribution of Short Films from around the World Starts Today: April 25!

Audience Review Period:
April 25-July 31, 2005

A larger-than-expected number of film productions have been submitted from 25 countries around the world for a web-based film festival. The entries have been whittled down to 30, and beginning April 25 these 30 carefully selected films will be distributed free of charge over the Internet via file streaming. The festival will run through July 31.

Viewers are invited to submit evaluations and comments on the films. There will also be a blog (web log) in the very near future, so viewers can correspond with the directors of the films. The CON-CAN Movie Festival is an international film festival forged by the people who have assembled in our cyber Media Plaza. Don't miss a chance to be a part of it!

CON-CAN Grand Prix Award (US$10,000) / Tamashii Awards (two awards, US$3,000)
*In case no movie is judged eligible for the Grand Prix at the final jury selection, an Encouragement Award (US$3,000) will be awarded to 3 movies.

Jury:
Babak Payami (Iran/Canada):Film Director, won the Best Director Prize at the Venice International Film Festival by Secret Ballot
Dennis Lim (USA): Film Critic of The Village Voice, member of the New York Film Critics Circle
Fei Zhao (China): Cinematographer, won the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Cinematography for Raise the Red Lantern; recent work includes participation in Woody Allen production
Jean-Michel Frodon (France):Journalist, film critic and cinema historian, editor in chief of Cahiers du Cinema, has written and directed a number of books on film critiques, including La Projection National
Jukka-Pekka Laakso (Finland): Director of Tampere Film Festival, member of the National Council for the Arts(Finland), member of the European Film Academy
Peter Millynn (Australia): Production Executive with the Australian Film Television & Radio School
Shoichiro Sasaki (Japan): Director of audio and visual images, won the Prix Italia Grand Prix and International Emmy awards (twice), as well as many other awards both in Japan and abroad
