Dynamic Disk Support in Cristie's Latest BMR Product

Stroud, Gloucestershire, UK - Cristie have announced the release of version 5.01 of CBMR® (Cristie Bare Machine Recovery) which enables users to recover a Microsoft™ Windows® system to a totally different hardware platform.

CBMR was the world's first disaster recovery solution for restoring to dissimilar hardware and Cristie has now updated the software to meet the ever-changing needs of the rapidly evolving data storage market.

CBMR 5.01 now makes it possible to handle more complex DR strategy scenarios than ever before. The new Windows recovery mode allows dynamic disk support.

The DR backup process has been simplified and additional support for more platforms is now available.

Major Changes Include

• Simplified DR Backup process
• Optional storage of configuration data with backup data
• TSM versioning
• TSM actlog entries
• System state backup
• Support for Windows XP and 2003 on 64-bit machines*
• Recovery via Linux or WinPE
• Updated GUI, improved interface and smoother integration of separate modules


Other enhancements include:

• Support for Dissimilar Recovery in Windows PE DR Console.
• When doing a DR backup, an option is provided to create the scripts DISREC.SCP and DISREST.SCP alone without running the backup or starting the scheduler wizard.
• New 'Tools' option is provided in Windows PE DR console GUI enabling you to access improved management tools:
a) Configure the network
b) Map a network drive
c) Disconnect network drives and
d) Start dissimilar hardware wizard
• Seamless upgrade from earlier versions of CBMR (the licence file Cristie.lic should be manually deployed only when upgrading from verion 4.10x).
• Support for English, French, German and Japanese languages (DR environment remains English only).

How it Works

CBMR consists of a set of server configuration files, a backup application and a bootable Disaster Recovery image held on CD or a BOOTP server. The boot image contains a customized Linux operating system together with minimal file-system tools developed by Cristie to provide the most efficient disaster recovery solution available for Windows.

The software is designed to maximize speed, flexibility and simplicity of use. Essential user interaction is kept to a minimum, but many powerful options exist to allow the expert to have full control.

CBMR will partition, format and restore files to IDE or SCSI disks of similar or greater sizes.
