San Diego, CA — United Nations General Assembly established World Refugee Day in 2000. Their resolution designated June 20th as World Refugee Day, a day on which organizations around the globe pause to raise awareness with specific themes regarding the plight of refugees.

This year's theme, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), is "A place to call home: rebuilding lives in safety and dignity." On June 19, 2004, Alliance for African Assistance will join the rest of the world, including organizations and residents of San Diego County, in celebrating World Refugee Day with a breakfast at the La Jolla Presbyterian Church "Life Center', 7715 Draper Avenue, La Jolla, CA 92037 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.

"This breakfast will bring people together to celebrate the successes of refugees, and to discuss how we will continue rebuilding the lives of those who arrive every year in San Diego County,' explains Walter Lam, President and CEO of Alliance for African Assistance. "Last year's celebration was a great success. A number of San Diego businesses, non-profit organizations, and individuals came forward with generous sponsorships or donations, making the breakfast a memorable event for refugees,' continues Mr. Lam.

The keynote speaker for this year's World Refugee Day breakfast is Rev. Stephen T. Murray, Pastor and Head of Staff of La Jolla Presbyterian Church.

"Sponsorship opportunities for this breakfast are still available,' reports Stan Miller, Director of Resource Development for Alliance for African Assistance. "Individual tickets for the breakfast are $35,' explains Mr. Miller.
