Getting reasonably priced insurance for young drivers just got a whole lot easier. Adrian Flux Insurance has launched a scheme offering a discount of 30% for drivers who take the Pass Plus test.

Anyone can take Pass Plus once they’ve passed their driving test and it’s available all around the country – check with local councils for information (some councils offer discounts to encourage drivers to take Pass Plus).

Adrian Flux Insurance specialises in ‘hard to insure’ risks, such as hot hatches, modified motors, performance cars – and young drivers.

“Sadly, about 20% of people have an accident in their first year of driving,” says Flux’s Gerry Bucke. “We all want to encourage youngsters to drive more carefully but our discount isn’t just generosity – it makes good business sense, since people taking Pass Plus are statistically less likely to make a claim.”

The stats mean that young drivers usually have a torrid time insuring their car – even if it’s in one of the lower insurance brackets. For example, a 19 year old male living in Cambridge (CB3) and driving a 1300cc VW Golf could expect to pay around £950 for his insurance. If he gets his Pass Plus then Flux will cut the cost to £665.

Similarly, an 18 year old girl living in Morecombe (LA4), owning an 1100cc Peugeot 106 will typically pay £860 dropping to £600 with Flux, once she passes Pass Plus.
