Kate Nowlan is the CEO of leading Employee Assistance Programme Provider CiC (www.cic-eap.co.uk). CiC has been providing EAP services for over eighteen years, with telephone support, management support, face to face counselling, traumatic incident counselling, specialist support services, training and executive coaching and management information. CiC works with over 300,000 employees across all sectors, and has a confidential helpline available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.

Kate Nowlan is an extraordinary leader for the company and draws from wide and diverse experience to setting the direction and the core values of the company. Her expertise in the field of corporate psychology and psychotherapy for the past twenty years has placed Kate at the forefront as one of the UK’s leading trauma specialists. As a result, CiC is recognised as one of the top EAP providers for trauma counselling and critical incident support.

Kate has been involved in hands-on trauma support in Ireland, South Africa and the Middle East. She has also been on site to provide support to both groups and on a one-to-one basis in the aftermath of some of the world’s most devastating catastrophes, including the London 7/7 bombings, the 2004 Madrid train bombings and the Paddington rail crash. Her wide experience in the field has led to Kate being in much demand to deliver workshops and seminars to a diverse range of organisations from Amnesty International to the Metropolitan Police. These cover many topics including working with trauma and preparing staff for overseas assignments.

Kate’s particular interest in supporting those who have been exposed to cumulative traumatic experiences in the course of their working lives also finds expression in her association with Darteurope (www.dartcenter.org). The Dart Center is part of Dart US, a global network of journalists, journalism educators and health professionals dedicated to improving the media’s portrayal of trauma, conflict and tragedy by educating journalists worldwide about the science and psychology of trauma.

Kate has travelled far a-field in her work with trauma support, leading conferences and training programmes in Cape Town with psychiatrists, doctors and HR professionals looking at the psychological impact of critical incidents on organisations. She has worked extensively with trauma survivors in South Africa and the Middle East, and also co-chaired a full day workshop with Dart for African journalists and their response to trauma. Such is her reputation – she was recently approached to act as trauma consultant to the television series ‘Spooks,’ addressing the issue of Post Traumatic Stress.

Kate headed the board of Directors in a recent management buy out of CiC. Kate is proud of the fact that the founding principal of caring for and listening to clients, has positioned CiC as the quality bespoke EAP provider and remains a core value for CiC.
