DALLAS – Derek D. Rollins, an associate with the Dallas law firm of Shackelford, Melton & McKinley, LLP, will appear on the 2007 listing of Texas Rising Stars. The special recognition is reserved for the top Texas lawyers age 40 or younger or those practicing law 10 or fewer years.

“This is great news,” says John C. Shackelford, managing partner of the firm. “Derek does a superb job for us, and more importantly, for our clients. I can’t think of any young lawyer who deserves this award more.”

The list of Texas Rising Stars appears in the April 2007 issue of Texas Monthly magazine and in Texas Rising Stars 2007, a publication by the publishers of Law & Politics Media, Inc.

Rising Stars are chosen from nominations made by fellow attorneys who were previously honored on the prestigious Texas Super Lawyers list. Fewer than 2.5 percent of all eligible lawyers are singled out as Texas Rising Stars.

Mr. Rollins’ primary area of practice is commercial litigation, with a special focus on creditors’ rights. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Texas A & M University, and his law degree from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law.

Shackelford, Melton & McKinley is a business and commercial law firm representing financial institutions, real estate owners and developers, automobile dealerships, and businesses in legal matters across the country. Its attorneys offer a wide range of specialized experience reflecting the increasingly complex legal, financial and social environments confronted by its clients.
