BETHESDA, MD – Case® Design/Remodeling, Inc. (www.CaseDesign.com) will join leading area businesses as an official sponsor of the 2005 Hands on DC Work-a-thon (www.HandsonDC.org) on Saturday, May 7, 2005, during which thousands of volunteers make improvements to public school buildings throughout Washington D.C. In addition to providing funding for the program – which also includes underwriting for college scholarships — Case will provide manpower from staff members of the Bethesda, MD-based company’s four DC-metro area offices. Case volunteers will make improvements such as painting, landscaping, carpentry and a variety of other projects at the Coolidge Senior High School in the north-west area of the city.

“Sponsorship of Hands on DC is a great fit with our company,” said Case president Mark Richardson. “It gives us an opportunity to invest in our city and our country’s future, as well as the satisfaction of seeing the worthwhile results of a day of companionship and community spirit.”

“What’s wonderful about this event is that it brings such a diverse group of people together in a fun and extremely rewarding experience that has lasting value,” says Case designer Nicole Zeigler. Zeigler serves as co-chair of the Hands on DC Recruitment Committee, the group responsible for recruiting the approximately 2,500 volunteers that participate in the work-a-thon. Members of the Recruitment Committee recruit Team Leaders, who in turn recruit volunteers for their teams. Case volunteers are being recruited and coordinated by assistant project designer Amanda McGinniss.

The Hands on DC work-a-thon is the second phase of a “Beautification Program” organized by members of the Coolidge PTA and school officials, who last November organized community groups to make much-needed improvements to the building and landscape with donated time and equipment.

Since 1995 more than 19,000 volunteers have helped improve the learning environment for students in more than 100 Washington D.C. schools through Hands on DC. In addition to making
improvements to school buildings, volunteers who have opted to also collect pledges for the program
have collected more than $400,000 to assist local students in furthering their education. Hands on DC works with College Bound (www.collegebound.org) — a Washington D.C. mentoring and tutoring organization — to identify outstanding students in their program for receipt of scholarships.
