Taking Students Where Cameras Can't

April 19, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Education News
San Francisco, CA – The Art Institute of California – San Francisco is proud to announce a new program to start in summer 2007 – Visual Effects & Motion Graphics, bachelor’s degree.

Visual Effects & Motion Graphics makes it possible to take an audience where no mere camera can go – like the SUV parked impossibly high on a desert mesa, a movie title composed only of smoke and light and that impossible shot that starts with the whole Earth in space and zooms into a close-up in a backyard. In the Visual Effects & Motion Graphics program at The Art Institute of California – San Francisco students learn skills in a new specialization that focuses on communication arts for film, television, and the Web. By combining graphic design, filmmaking, animation, and sound, graduates of this program will be qualified for entry-level positions as digital image specialists who work in all areas of television and film production, for broadcast, cable, theatrical film, advertising, marketing, and education.

An education in Visual Effects & Motion Graphics will provide students with skills in using digital compositing to create layered, textural landscapes engaging both the mind and the emotions. Students will learn how to build a seamless presentation that is both visually arresting and commercially effective, through the integration of live action footage, programming clips, graphic elements and sound. Students in this program will take courses in the areas of Graphic Design, Animation, Digital Audio, Digital Video, Post-production, Broadcast Graphics, and Compositing.

“The Art Institute of California – San Francisco is committed to providing creative programs that cater to the market’s demands. We are delighted to offer this new specialization focusing on communication arts for film, television, and the Web. Given the rapid expansion of on-line animation and video production, we believe a bachelor’s in Visual Effects & Motion Graphics will provide skilled graduates to work in this exciting career field,” commented James Campbell, President of The Art Institute of California – San Francisco

Graduates with a bachelor’s in Visual Effects & Motion Graphics program will be prepared for entry-level positions in film and on-line film/video, video post production, television shows, broadcast and cable television among others.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor 2006-2007 Occupational Outlook Handbook (http://www.bls.gov/oco/cg/print/cgs038.htm) “Wage and salary employment in the motion picture and video industries is projected to grow 17 percent between 2004 and 2014, compared with 14 percent growth projected for wage and salary employment in all industries combined.”

The bachelor’s program lasts 12 quarters (four academic years) and contains 192 credits.
