8th Annual Robert F. Campbell Jr. Memorial Hockey Tournament for Dana-Farber Returns to Quincy Youth Arena April 27 & 28

Quincy, Mass. - April 22, 2006 - The 8th Annual Robert F. Campbell Jr. Memorial Hockey Tournament announces its return to the Quincy Youth Arena April 27-28, 2007. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $138,000 to fund leukemia research and patient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

WHAT:
The Robert F. Campbell Jr. Memorial Hockey Tournament is a competitive eight-team men’s tournament featuring ex-collegiate and junior hockey players from the New England area. This year, the event will include the Massachusetts State Police Hockey Team. This event was created in memory of Whitman, Mass. resident Rob Campbell who lost his battle with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) in 1985 at the age of 21.

The success of this year’s tournament is made possible in part by our generous corporate sponsors including: Global Data Systems (GDS); Hillcrest Electric Corp.; Lincoln Investment Planning; President Titanium; Reliable Mortgage and Sunshine Pool Company.

According to the American Cancer Society, about 44,240 new cases of leukemia will be diagnosed in the United States during 2007. The most common leukemia is AML, with about 13,410 new cases expected. About 8,990 deaths from AML will occur in the United States during 2007. Almost all will be in adults. AML is generally a disease of older people, and is rare before the age of 40. The average age of a patient with AML is 65 years.

Friday, April 27: 6:40 – 11:10 p.m.
Saturday, April 28: 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

There will be a Family & Fan Skate (open to the public) on Saturday at 6:10 p.m., followed by the Championship Game at 8:00 p.m.
