World renowned paper doll artist, Judy M Johnson, of Skandia Michigan, has been contracted by Paper Studio Press, of Kingfield Maine, to paint a new paper doll of recently deceased (March 12, 2007) actress and singer, Betty Hutton. This work is authorized by the estate of Betty Hutton.

Born in Battle Creek Michigan, 1921, Betty Hutton is remembered for her enthusiastic renditions of oddball songs, written especially for her. She is also noted for her delightfully expressive acting skills in such films as: Star Spangled Rhythm, 1942; The Fleet’s In, 1942; Happy Go Lucky, 1943 with Mary Martin and Dick Powell; Miracle of Morgan’s Creek with Eddie Bracken in 1944; opposite Bob Hope in Let’s Face It, 1944; Here Come the Waves, with Bing Crosby in 1944; Incendiary Blonde, 1945; The Stork Club, 1945 which propelled her song “Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief” to number one; The Perils of Pauline, 1947 where she sang her popular song, “I Wish I Didn’t Love You So,” Dream Girl, 1948; and others. Two of her biggest box office hits were Annie Get Your Gun, (1950); Let’s Dance with Fred Astaire, 1950; as a trapeze artist (doing her own stunts!) in DeMille’s The Greatest Show on Earth which won Best Picture Oscar of 1952; and Somebody Loves Me (also recorded the song of the same title) 1952. She was also successful in two Broadway productions: Two for the Show, and Cole Porter’s Panama Hattie.

Costumes from Miss Hutton’s life and films will be featured in this new book, due for release late 2007. Ms. Johnson is thrilled to be painting this book as she is a personal fan of the actress, and loves her whimsical songs. Ms. Johnson has been published since 1984 by major paper doll publishers; B. Shackman, Dover Publications, Magicloth Toy Co., Schylling Toy Co., and multiple national periodicals.
