GOING GRRREEN: THE WILDLIFE CONSERVATION SOCIETY PARTNERS WITH ECO-CELL TO HELP SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT

April 25, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
Louisville, KY – April 25, 2007 – ECO-CELL, a Louisville-based environmental cell phone recycling and green fund raising company, continues to answer the ‘call of the wild’ by announcing a national partnership with the New York based Wildlife Conservation Society (www.wcs.org). The partnership will enable the Wildlife Conservation Society to raise money through the collection of unused cell phones.

Specifically, the new partnership will result in the installation of cell phone collection vaults at world-famous wildlife parks around New York City including The Central Park Zoo, Bronx Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and the New York Aquarium. The partnership kicks off at Bronx Zoo’s Earth Day Party taking place April 21 and 22, 2007. The event will celebrate all things “Earth” with a host of fun, family-oriented activities. To date, ECO-CELL has grown its zoo partnerships across North America and Canada to 82 zoos since it’s inception in 2001.

“We are delighted to partner with Eco-Cell in reaching out to the more than four million annual visitors at all five of our Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) parks in NYC - the Bronx Zoo, NY Aquarium, Central Park, Queens and Prospect Park Zoos. By launching this program during our Earth Day celebratory weekend event, we hope to build awareness about how recycled cell phones can conserve wildlife and wild places – particularly gorillas. Our Bronx Zoo gorillas are the perfect ambassadors to help their species in nature and engage the public in this effort,” said Samantha Conlan, Wildlife Conservation Society Assistant Director of Corporate Partnerships.

“Partnerships like the one we have developed with the Wildlife Conservation Society are fantastic. Together we are protecting the environment from toxins found in cell phones such as lead and arsenic by recycling them. Equally important, we are raising funds for our friends in the animal world,” said Eric Ronay, ECO-CELL President. “Perhaps most important though is that the partnership makes it very easy for an incredibly dense population to participate in conservation. All New Yorkers have to do is visit their favorite zoo and drop their old cell phones off. ”

Additionally, the company also announced new local partnerships. ECO-CELL is teaming with Louisville-based Feeder’s Supply Co. (www.feederssupply.com) to place cell phone collection boxes at its twelve retail locations. All proceeds benefit the Louisville Zoo. Through its participation in KY Excel (www.dca.ky.gov/KYEXCEL), Eco-Cell has also partnered with the not-for-profit organization, PRIDE (www.kypride.org) to compliment its Personal Responsibility In a Desirable Environment initiative in Central and Western Kentucky. The PRIDE initiative was launched in 1997 with a vision to restore the natural beauty of the native region by encouraging citizens to take responsibility for protecting their environment and providing them with education and resources they need.
