USRobotics Launches New Storage Solution for SOHO / Small Business Customers

April 2007 - USRobotics, a Platinum Equity company and leader in Internet access and networking solutions, has introduced an advanced network attached storage device, the USR8700 Serial ATA 4 Drive Network Attached Storage appliance.

The USR8700 brings sophisticated, cost-effective and safe storage to small businesses, corporate work-groups and advanced household networks. Four drive bays allow customers to add up to two terabytes (2000GB) of storage. The solution includes integrated back-up software for imaging and restoring client hard drives in case of catastrophic failure, and client remote boot functions enabling recovery from local drive failure.

“By offering a sophisticated network storage appliance without integrated drives, our resellers can customise the USR8700 to meet the exact requirements of their small office and home office customers. The USR8700 is configured via a simple to understand and use wizard. The unit supports:


- Linear storage or the use of multiple drives for primary and back-up storage, along with dynamic logical drive sizing;
- RAID 0, 1, 5, 5+ spare, 10 and JBOD configurations;
- Auto-sensing 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet connection;
- Two USB 2.0 ports for network printers or additional external storage; and
- Microsoft’s Active Directory to further simplify configuration.


The USR8700 comes equipped with advanced back-up capabilities, including one user license key for DiskSafe Express software, featuring Back-up and Bare Metal Recovery (BBMR) to recover from a catastrophic failure. Additional license keys are available for purchase online. Secure storage is assured via user and group level security settings such as no access, read-only and read/write options. Folder level security settings with parental inheritance further simplify the security setup.
