The Coalition for the Homeless is the nation's oldest and most progressive advocacy and direct service organization. Created in 1981, the Coalition is on the frontline forging long-term solutions to mass homelessness, which are more humane and cost-effective than current government programs. The Coalition works to promote effective, long-term solutions to the problem of modern homelessness through public education, litigation, organizing, and policy research. Each day the Coalition provides direct services to nearly 3,500 men, women and children through a mobile food program, crisis intervention, job training, a sleep-away summer camp for homeless children, and permanent housing.
