RocSearch Forays Into Corporate Social Responsibility

May 06, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
May, 2007, NOIDA, India: RocSearch India recently started its CSR cell and has already made considerable headway. Partnering with a national-level venture philanthropist called Smile Foundation, it has decided to support one of Smile¡¯s existing projects ¡®Nai Disha¡¯ ¨C a school providing free education to nearly 400 slum children in Noida.

RocSearch is encouraging its employees to volunteer on weekends to help educate children and conduct interactive workshops. Moving ahead with its plans, RocSearch intends to arrange sports days for the children, organise drawing competitions, celebrate festivals at the school, sponsor top rankers and education of students into mainstream schools, as well as fund textbooks and other study materials.

Besides helping educate slum children in the nearby areas, CSR efforts of RocSearch have helped create a sense of employee bonding and loyalty within the firm. The point has been succinctly put forward by Priyanka, an active member of the RocSearch CSR team, who says, ¡°I know a lot more about my colleagues now. Volunteering at Nai Disha has helped me to interact with colleagues who are outside my immediate circle of work.¡±

¡°We are all so involved with work and family commitments that we forget to look beyond ourselves. However, after visiting the school and interacting with the children, I realised that there is a world out there that I can make a difference to by just taking out a little bit of time. I am glad that RocSearch has given me a chance to involve myself in such initiatives,¡± explains Manoop, another member of the team.

The CSR message is taking roots in India as more and more entrepreneurs are waking up to the fact that businesses do not exist in isolation. Customers, employees, shareholders, the general public ¨C all form the existential network of industry and the business class has to cater to social responsibilities as well.

Many corporate houses including RocSearch are now making CSR principles an integral part of their business models as it promises better retention and recruitment, acts as a buffer during trying times, aids brand recognition and helps avoid unnecessary intervention from the government by justifying eye-catching profits.

Besides community involvement, the other arms of CSR ©¤ socially-responsible production processes and socially-responsible employee relations ©¤ are still in nascent stages in the country and the journey has only begun.
