BitRock Develops User Friendly, Cross-platform Install Package for MySQL Enterprise

San Francisco, CA. May 2007. BitRock, Inc., the leading provider of custom open source stacks, announced today it has developed an easy-install custom stack to deploy MySQL Enterprise’s database monitoring and advisory software across a wide range of supported platforms. The custom stack enables MySQL Enterprise subscribers to quickly and easily deploy all of the software required to monitor, identify and fix potential problems with their database servers before the issues can impact critical applications.

BitRock Custom Stacks are integrated distributions of open source software, packaged specifically to support a particular application. The stacks are packaged with intuitive installers built with BitRock InstallBuilder, which step users through a fail-proof installation process. All necessary configuration steps, such as setting passwords and binding to the appropriate ports, are performed by the installer, so the user is 'up and running' with the software as soon as installation is completed.

"One of the biggest challenges of using open source software is getting all of the required software components to work together,” said Erica Brescia, VP of Business Development for BitRock. “Vendors end up spending a significant amount of time and resources trying to build install packages for all of the operating systems they need to support."

Edwin Desouza, MySQL AB’s senior director of product marketing, said, "As the world's most popular open source database, MySQL has a diverse user base that requires support for a wide range of operating systems and environments. Working with BitRock allows us to provide our MySQL Enterprise subscribers with a fast, easy installation process for our database monitoring service. BitRock's expertise in packaging easy-to-install software was a great fit for our requirements."

MySQL is one of many leading open source companies to choose BitRock Custom Stacks to deploy enterprise applications such as CRM, ERP and Content Management. BitRock customers include ActiveGrid, JasperSoft, KnowledgeTree, SugarCRM, and Zmanda, among others. By working with BitRock, these companies are able to provide their software in easy to install packages for a wide range of platforms, which encourages adoption by new users.
