Blue Order’s Media Archive going live at Swiss Radio DRS

Blue Order, a leading provider of media asset management solutions for the broadcast and entertainment industry, has developed and integrated an Enterprise Media Management platform for the Swiss Radio. The solution is based on the Blue Order product Media Archive® - a comprehensive archiving concept for media objects and the respective metadata. The over all concept was especially designed for Swiss Radio DRS (SR DRS) - a division of the radio and broadcast association SRG SSR idée suisse. In the context of the digitalization of the radio division, SR DRS has implemented a management and storage system for their audio content as well as associated objects such as video, web, book content, cover sheets and musical scores.

Integrated into the Blue Order solution, specifically customized for SR DRS, is the Audio Content Management System (aCMS) with a connected long term audio repository. The purpose of the system was to create a persistent software platform to manage rich media objects on a medium term and long term perspective, a platform that is independent from other existing production environments. The aCMS records the transmission signals of the five radio programs DRS 1, DRS 2, DRS 3, DRS Musigwälle and Virus – amounting to a total of 120 hours per day.

For each archived content genre (entertainment, classical music, speech, sounds etc.) specific web based graphical user interfaces were designed in three different steps (“simple”, “extended”, “professional”).

The system is designed to grant access to research and a quick and efficient reuse of archived content for about 600 users. In addition another 50 users are connected to the system for the purpose of documentation and annotation of the incoming content.

By means of the new management system all SR DRS editorial offices – located at headquarters and also abroad - are now able to gain safe and quick access to the entire audio assets.
