Nursery Rhymes – they’re not just for kids anymore. City Dance Company and artistic director Sherese Campbell venture into new territory with “Nursery Rhymes for Grown Folk,” an original, delightfully humorous and thought-provoking two-act musical theater piece. Campbell is breaking ground for an upcoming ten-city tour for the work that was performed in New York earlier this year.

The innovative company adds singing and acting to their extensive dance repertoire, performing Campbell’s comedic take on childhood favorites, definitely designed for entertaining grown ups. The multiethnic company is known for its fresh approach and seamless fusion of styles, from classical ballet to hip-hop to jazz.

“This is a piece about real life and deals with some edgy subject matter,” said Campbell. On a canvas of humor, Campbell boldly paints a powerful picture of reality by taking the audience from playground name calling to baby-mama drama to coming out of the closet.

Nursery Rhymes for Grown Folk will be performed Friday and Saturday, June 8 & 9, 2007, 7:30 p.m. at Stages Repertory Theatre, 3201 Allen Parkway, Houston, Texas 77019. Parking is available in the Houston Center for the Arts parking lot on the south side of the building on D'Amico Street.

Tickets, $20, $10 for students with valid college ID, can be purchased at the door or online at www.houstoncitydance.com. For more information, call 713-529-6100.
