PORTLAND, May 17, 2007—On Thursday, May 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is “locking-up” local business members and community leaders. MDA volunteers will arrest and escort the accused to the Clackamas Outback Steakhouse where they will serve their sentences. These big hearted “jail birds” will raise money for MDA as part of the Outer Southeast Portland and Clackamas Lock-up.

65 local businesses and community leaders are participating in the annual MDA Lock-up. These “jail birds” are raising “bail” with donations from friends, family and business associates. “Bail” for the “jail birds” is set at $1,950—the cost to send three children with a neuromuscular disease to MDA summer camp. The money raised at the MDA Lock-up will help fund local MDA services.

Local business members and “Jail Birds” Mark Oakley of Mountain Glass and Pat Hilsinger of Utility Trailer Sales of Oregon have already raised their complete bail.

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through worldwide research, comprehensive services and far reaching professional and public health education.
