Famous Design Firms like Cato Purnell, Chase Design Group and Chermayeff & Geismar, Inc take up the usual space in the Logo Lounge series of books but this time Bill Gardner makes room for a new kid.

Since its 2003 inception, The Logo Lounge series have quickly become the best-selling collection of logos around. Each year author Bill Gardner, who has produced work for Learjet, Nissan, Pepsi and Pizza Hut gathers his team of international judges to pick "the best and the most exciting work in logo design." This year Bill Gardner said, "the content is exceptional and the judging was extremely competitive".

The usual who's who of big name design firms lead the pack of entries but one surprise was from a relative newcomer, out of Orange County, California. Artini Bar, a one woman operation, created a hybrid image for Hansel & Pretzel, a German bakery in San Francisco. Even more unusual, the winning design, which will be featured in the fourth volume was rejected by the client. Designer and owner Alex Purnell, " It's a delicate balance being both artist and business owner. As a designer , you always want to direct your clients artistically but as a business owner you have to let them play Art Director. Sometimes they chuck fresh ideas for the safe recyclable ones. Needless to say, it's very redeeming to have a prestigious panel of judges recognize the merit of my design even if the client did not . "

Some of this year judges included Louis Lygo, Wolff Olins of the (RED) Campaign, Jason Schulte, Jason Schulte Design of the Coca Cola "get real" campaign and Chris Campbell of Interbrand. Logo Lounge Volume Four will be released 2008. Alex Purnell design work for this logo can be viewed at www.ARTiniBAR.com
