CITY AQUATIC CENTRE TO BECOME MUSIC VENUE FOR KIDS

May 26, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
Sydney’s Big Band for children, KINDERJAZZ, will be the first outfit to use the popular city aquatic centre as a music venue. The band, which has headlined The Lord Mayor’s Picnic for the past five New Year’s Eve celebrations for the City of Sydney, and features many of Sydney’s finest musicians, provides live jazz entertainment for all ages.

Led by the irrepressibly talented George Washingmachine, the 13-part lineup includes Glenn Henrich, Jason Morphett, Andrew Heading, Jamie Castrisos and Latin percussionist Aykho Akhrif.

Even renowned classical pianist Simon Tedeschi joined the band late last year for a New Year's Eve performance! They play original tunes written specially for kids who learn to mambo, cha cha and conga to a live jazz orchestra.

The concert coincides with the band’s 10th birthday.

The initiative is part of the City of Sydney’s aim to position its ambitious recreation centre globally. Masterminded by the joint venture of Lawrence Nield & partners and Spackman and Mossop, the centre has been providing recreation needs for the urban residential population and city workers since 1999. It integrates provision of a variety of swimming pools, a wave machine, a gymnasium, a basketball court and community spaces including a café.

Concert tickets at $10 per head can be purchased from the Pool Café and offer free entry to the state of the art facility. To book online: www.kinderjazz.com Tickets limited to 400 max.

KINDERJAZZ was founded in 1997 to provide children with the exposure they need to succeed musically at the earliest level. www.kinderjazz.com offers a range of articles, research materials and CDs for the education conscious parent.
