The Bollywood Ambassador to the UK, Honey Kalaria, was invited as Special Guest to attend this year’s prestigious Rose D’or Festival on the shores of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland. Honey accompanied Mr. Shakeel Noorani, a successful Bollywood Film Producer and Director, who was one of the 19 Jury Members, responsible for viewing and voting on the 72 programmes that were nominated for the coveted Golden Rose Awards.

The Rose D’or Festival is one of the most important Festivals for entertainment and arts programmes. Honey was asked to help create links with those working within the Indian television and broadcast industry and help raise awareness of the Festival to Asian audiences. Although Honey is regularly involved in helping to bridge cultural gaps within performing arts, entertainment industry, education, and community groups, this if the first time she has been involved in developing East West relations within the media industry.

“I was delighted to be invited to the Rose D’or Festival and offer my support. It is important for more Asian people to get involved in this prestigious event which gives respect and recognition to outstanding work within the broadcast media industry. The festival also provides a fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas and develop business relationships with those from other countries”.

The 47th edition of the Rose D’or Festival received a record number of 358 entries this year, with the UK setting the gold standard – taking six of the seven Golden Roses.

‘The winners demonstrate a fantastic and diverse field of programming from big budget productions in the UK to small, yet strong and highly creative programmes from around the world.’

Urban Frye, Festival Director

The Jury Members had the difficult task of selecting the top winners in the categories of Show, Reality, Comedy, Sitcom, Soap, Performing Arts, Arts Documentary and the special Opera category. Shakeel Noorani, who was one of the Jury members for the Drama category, knows just what it takes to be a success, having directed Bollywood Blockbusters such as ‘Joru ka Ghulam’ and worked as an Associate Director for the Hollywood film ‘Close Encounter of the Third Kind’ by Steven Spielberg for the Indian unit.

“It was a great honour to represent India and be a member of the jury that was made up of professionals and experts from across the globe. The Indian television industry has a lot to offer by way of technical expertise and content creativity. I would highly recommend more producers and broadcasters from India to get involved in the Rose D’or festival”.
