DVLA Meets Government Target With New Scanning Solution

The Driver & Vehicle Licence Agency (DVLA), the government department responsible for issuing driving licences and vehicle registrations within the UK, is following e-Docs UK’s example by installing a new scanning solution, the BancTec DocuScan 9000, to improve processing times for V5C Vehicle Registration Certificates. It is enabling the DVLA to comply with targets set by the Secretary of State to issue new vehicle registration certificates within 14 days.

The DVLA has installed a BancTec DocuScan 9000 high-speed scanner/sorter and IntelliSCAN document capture software application. The system processes around 40,000 documents each day at DVLA’s headquarters in Swansea and automatically sorts scanned documents into individual pockets for streamlined post-scanning operations.

According to a DVLA spokesperson: “By moving to the BancTec system we are now scanning all our V5C certificates within the necessary 24-hour timeframe. For the first time we are also able to scan in high-speed colour, significantly improving the image clarity for our data entry operators. This has resulted in continually hitting our data accuracy target of 97.5% as well as reducing the number of rejected documents.”
