Bay Area Attorney Uncovers 7 Steps to Worry-Free Estate Planning

(MARIN COUNTY, CA)—(June 2007)—Estate Planning Attorney Thea Beatie Eliot announced today two upcoming workshops on her 7 Steps to Worry-Free Estate Planning, designed to help parents close gaps in their estate planning that leave children vulnerable to potential harm.

"Most of the time, parents are too busy to think about what could happen if they’re not around anymore," said Eliot. "But if they put half the time into planning for their kids’ futures as they did planning their birthday parties, they might never have to face terrible, life-altering decisions later on."

Having a will drawn up is a good first step, according to Eliot. But it’s not enough to provide for kids in the short-term, if something happens to a parent. Incapacitating accidents can render parents unable to communicate. And by law, children can be temporarily placed with Child Protective Services or permanently placed with unsuitable guardians, leaving relatives with little recourse except to wage expensive custody battles.

"There are gaps in the laws, even if you already have a will, which can remove kids from their homes and everything they know. My workshops teach parents 7 easy steps they can take right away to ensure the absolute protection of their children," said Eliot.

The first workshop will be held:
Date: Saturday, June 9th
Time: 4:00 – 5:30 PM
Location: The Little Gym
(in the Best Buy shopping center)
170 Donahue Street
Sausalito, CA 94965

The second workshop will be held:
Date: Tuesday, June 12th
Time: 6:30 – 8:30 PM
Location: Kidzwatch
Mill Valley Community Center
180 Camino Alto
Mill Valley, CA 94941

Workshops are free of charge but families wishing to register must do so beforehand by emailing protectmykids@thealaw.com or calling 415-451-0123. Space is limited to the first 20 families to RSVP. Childcare will be provided free of charge.
