Tri KASS Interiors, Inc. Principal, Peter Triantafyllos Completes Work on City & County of Denver, Colorado

Tri KASS Interiors, Inc. (TKI, Inc.) revealed it had completed a contract as consultant with its partners The SGS Group of Los Angeles, Tryba Architects and RNL Design (both of Denver) for their mutual client, the city and county of Denver, Colorado. The project was very large and complex. It involved space planning, interior design and furniture specification for the city and county of Denver's spectacular new 12 story, 600,000 square foot, Wellington E. Webb municipal office tower and remodeled annex building. Upon completion of the project, 52 city and county agencies along with their 2,400 employees were combined under one roof.

TKI's principal interior designer Peter Triantafyllos was facilities programmer/designer for this project, under the company's former name of Triantafyllos Design Group. Mr. Triantafyllos was involved in the full scope of the project that involved reviewing space plans and writing generic specifications for systems, specifying free standing furniture systems (such as conference tables, filing cabinets, etc.) using products provided through its partner SPACES Creative Office Solutions, of Englewood, Colorado. After many interviews of each agency's requirements and making a detailed analysis of his clients' needs, Mr. Triantafyllos determined Inscape Platform office systems and work tools, and Sitag ergonomic products would be ordered. He ordered over 2,300 workstations through the Inscape representative of JCL Commercial Interior Products. The cost was approximately $9.0 million for all the furnishings.

At the start, Mr. Triantafyllos was confronted with a major challenge in that most of the Colorado agencies had never worked in the same physical location. The daunting task was to find one office furniture system that was flexible enough to accommodate the diverse functional job requirements while still creating a consistent look that was interesting and timeless.

Mr. Triantafyllos developed a questionnaire for the city and county personnel who would eventually live with and use the new office systems. After developing the requirements questionnaire, he managed the distribution, collection, and analysis of the employee input. Once the basic criteria of the combined clients were understood, a number of office systems from various competitors were set up and the people who were actually going to use the furniture were asked to provide their comments.

After tallying the votes, Triantafyllos determined Inscape's Platform office system was the overwhelming choice of all parties. Inscape's system met all the criteria for flexibility, ease of reconfiguration, technology management and value for the taxpayers of Colorado.

Peter Triantafyllos and his design team were able to create a highly functional and supportive work environment with considerable visual interest. Only one paint color was used on the furniture, and lower tiles shared a common fabric to simplify inventory management and reconfigurations. The design team established a "Seasonal' theme throughout the facility with skillful use of accent fabrics on the upper segments of the workstations to suggest autumn on one floor, spring on the next, etc.

The overall impression of the space is welcoming and friendly. Behind the scenes there are 2,400 motivated and happy Colorado employees who are comfortable with their furniture, their technology and the fact that they are providing the taxpayers with excellent service and a valuable return on
their investment.
