Youngsters have utilised their creative flair to make their mark on an innovative social housing scheme in South Staffordshire. Local children joined forces with the team behind the redevelopment of Bevan Lee, in Cannock, to create murals to display on the hoardings surrounding the construction site.

Beth Johnson Housing Association, part of Sanctuary Housing Group, is leading the multi-million pound project, which involves the demolition of sub-standard homes with 128 replacement properties and a community centre. “The purpose of this project is to help bring the community together in a time of enormous change. The work will certainly brighten up the building site on the estate.” said Cath Jordan, Regeneration Manager at Beth Johnson Housing Association.

The partnership also involves Cannock Chase District Council, who own the bulk of the homes on the Bevan Lee estate. The total cost of the project is almost £15 million. J & S Seddon (Building) Limited, which has its headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent, is constructing the new homes. Barry Thompson, of Seddon, said: “This is a great way of involving the young people in the area with the construction project.”
