Wedding stationery is no longer a last minute thought, but rather a starting point for couples who take planning their wedding seriously. There is more importance now than ever in creating wedding stationery that sets the tone for the special event. Couples today are looking for couture design that combines imagery, type, color and paper to create an original design that is decidedly them. Long gone are the days of traditional, dated design and flat printing.

It’s no wonder that many couples are taking matters into their own hands. Couples seek out their wedding stationery by surfing the Internet, perusing bridal magazines or visiting their local stationery store for ideas. Even after their search, couples may decide on an invitation design that doesn’t really match their personality and style, but is sadly “good enough.” Once this happens, there is no longer any enthusiasm to create complimentary stationery pieces such as menu cards, place cards, programs and thank you notes.

Thankfully, producers of Spark Stationery realize the need out there to produce fresh, colorful and fun wedding stationery that excites their clients, some for the first time, about innovative design, beautiful paper and letterpress printing. Spark’s Couture design and printing services offer a wonderful outlet for couples to not only create stunning wedding invitations, but to weave their couture design throughout each wedding detail.

“We really love to talk with couples about their wedding vision, how they picture their special day will look. Once we have all of the details, we try our best to capture their personal style on paper with a design that is all their own. This design is then duplicated on their menu cards, place cards, signage, programs, and also on their personal stationery that will be used after the wedding. It’s a fun process for everyone involved,” says Valerie Carlson, senior art director for Spark Couture.

There are so many printing methods available to couples, however Spark prints their wedding stationery on one of three letterpresses they have in their design studio. A 15th century printing method is now a 21st century must have for wedding invitations. In its heyday, letterpress printing was simply an everyday process. It was considered poor technique to leave more than a “kiss impression,” unlike the deep impressions currently sought after. Today, the impression depth is the obvious difference of letterpress from offset printing. Variations in inking, impression and registration – often exaggerated for impact – are all distinct effects commonly desired in letterpress-printed designs.

“Creating custom wedding stationery should ultimately be an enjoyable process,” says Diedre Johnson, Spark Stationery Consultant. Couples will enjoy the process more if they openly communicate their ideas with Spark Couture or a designer of their choice. “The most important thing to remember when creating custom stationery is to be honest,” suggests Diedre. “It’s your wedding day. The last thing we would ever want a couple to think is that the design is ‘good enough’. We expect our stationery will make an impression before, during and after your wedding.”
