Smart Storage is investing a further £600,000 enabling it to double the size of its site at the old Candy Works in Bromborough. The expansion to 60,000 sq ft will make the unit one of the biggest self storage operations in the North of England. The company’s expansion is being funded by Bridges Community Ventures and Royal Bank of Scotland.

Jon Wyles, Managing Director of Smart Storage, said: “We have been overwhelmed by demand since opening for business in Bromborough two years ago.

“The new investment will see us double the space available to 60,000 sq ft and provide greater flexibility with larger units for commercial customers.

“About 70 per cent of our customers are residential and the rest commercial.

“Our customers include people moving home or renting to those just wanting a good clearout.

“We get people wanting to store all sorts of items from golf clubs and skis to wine collections and old books.

“We also work with a lot of professional firms wanting to store documents in a safe and secure environment as well as those in the construction industry.”

Since opening its first unit in Wirral, Smart Storage has launched in Liverpool and further units are opening in Widnes and Warrington later this year.

Self-storage is massive in the United States with more than 38,000 sites across the country, but has only recently started to take off in the UK. Smart Storage customers have their own key and can access their units at any time during long opening hours.

Each customer is given their own unique pin number to enter their storage room and then re-enter the number on leaving to reactivate the alarm. Each unit is fully covered by CCTV and the intruder alarm is linked to the police.

Smart Storage’s reception is open 8-6 Monday to Friday, 9-5 on Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday with 24-hour access available upon request.
