Skaneateles, NY – June 14, 2007 – Ryan-Biggs Associates, P.C., a consulting firm specializing in structural engineering, announced today that Christopher N. Latreille, P.E., authored an article titled “Special Inspections & Masonry” for Structure magazine. The article, featured in the May 2007 issue, describes the roles of the Registered Design Professional, the Testing Agent, the Contractor, and the Special Inspector during the Special Inspection of masonry construction.

Special Inspections have been a requirement for most new building projects in New York and other states since the adoption of the 2000 International Building Code (IBC). Inspection of unit masonry requires a high level of field observation since masonry elements are generally assembled on-site. Ideally, the Special Inspector is a Structural Engineer familiar with masonry design and construction.

Christopher Latreille, P.E., is a professional engineer with Ryan-Biggs Associates, P.C. He serves as Special Inspector for many of the firm’s projects and is involved in structural design of educational, medical, and industrial buildings. He recently became a shareholder in the firm.
