HOUSTON, TX. - Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors' Ann Eschenfelder has not only contributed countless hours over the past eight years to Habitat for Humanity's Northwest Harris County chapter, but she also recently secured a $5,000 Prudential Cares Volunteer Grant for the organization from the Prudential Foundation.

The grant is one of only six the foundation gives at the $5,000 level. Eschenfelder said the money will go toward helping to raise $45,000 for a Habitat house being built only by women volunteers. Each home Habitat for Humanity builds is approximately 1,100 square feet with three bedrooms, one bathroom and appliances including refrigerator, washer and dryer.

Eschenfelder, who has worked in the Prudential, Gary Greene Champions office for more than a decade, said she chose to involve herself with Habitat for Humanity because of her own hardships.

"Years ago I could have qualified for a Habitat house," she said. "I was a single mom with two kids. I'd just gotten started as a Realtor, and I had $11.35 to my name." Now, Eschenfelder chairs the charity's annual Toolbox Bash and sits on the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee and the Land Acquisition Committee. She said putting in the time with Habitat is a joy. "It's the love of my life," she said.

"Ann is one of our top producers," said Sharon Teusink, manager of the Prudential Gary Greene, Realtors Champions office, "yet she finds time for this important charity." Teusink said she admires Eschenfelder's work ethic and dedication to both her job and her volunteer efforts. "Everything she does is A-plus."

For Eschenfelder, the decision to become involved with Habitat for Humanity was an easy one. "I believe that when you're blessed to get out of a situation like that, it is important to be there for other people who are going through the same thing," she said.
