RTI Integrates its Real-Time Messaging Middleware with Sun Java Real-Time System

SANTA CLARA, CA–June 20, 2007–Real Time Innovations (RTI), The Real Time Middleware Experts, today announced that it has integrated RTI Data Distribution Service with the Sun Java Real-Time System (Java RTS) from Sun Microsystems. The RTI RTSJ Extensions Kit enables developers to combine the unsurpassed real-time messaging capabilities of RTI middleware with the powerful Java real-time development platform to build high-performance distributed applications.

While Java technology is one of the most significant and pervasive software platforms, adoption of Java technology for real-time applications has been limited because conventional Java Runtime Environments (JREs) have not been able to deliver predictable behavior. Java RTS enables developers of real-time applications to take full advantage of the Java language ecosystem while maintaining the predictability of current real-time development platforms. Java RTS is a fully compliant commercial implementation of Java Specification Request (JSR)-001, the Real-Time Specification for Java (RTSJ).

RTI Data Distribution Service now takes advantage of Java RTS to enable development of highly distributed real-time applications in Java technology. Developers can leverage the Java platform and its rich set of tools while achieving timing and response goals consistent with real-time application requirements, even across a distributed and heterogeneous system. This capability was previously only available with applications that were compiled into native machine code, such as those written using C, C++ and Ada.

“RTI middleware and Java RTS enable developers to build comprehensive, data-driven applications that require real-time data availability and response across large distributed
environments,” said Laurie Tolson, vice president, Client Software Group, Sun. “With this integration, organizations are now able to use Java technology in conjunction with these distributed applications, bringing developers the many advantages of Java’s rich development platform.”

“The demand for Java technology among our development community is understandable,” explained David Barnett, vice president of Product Marketing at RTI. “The Java platform is extremely powerful, and we are excited to enable our distributed application developers to take advantage of Java technology in conjunction with RTI Data Distribution Service.”

With this release, RTI also introduces new Quality-of-Service (QoS) configuration parameters that take advantage of Sun Java RTS. QoS control allows distributed-application developers to fine-tune system behavior in order to optimize performance and memory use.

Price & Availability
RTI RTSJ Extensions Kit for RTI Data Distribution Service and Sun Java RTS will be available in Q3 2007 for Solaris 10 on UltraSPARC and x86 hosts. Pricing begins at $7,200, which includes maintenance and support.

RTI Data Distribution Service is licensed separately. It is available today for many processor and operating system combinations, including Solaris; Windows, Windows CE and Windows Mobile; Linux; LynuxWorks LynxOS; QNX Neutrino; Wind River VxWorks; and Green Hills INTEGRITY operating systems. A complete development package for $84,600 USD includes the following: a comprehensive Architecture Study from an RTI expert who provides written design recommendations based on an evaluation of application requirements, two days of customer-specific training, one week of follow-up consulting, and one year of maintenance and support.

About RTI Data Distribution Service
RTI Data Distribution Service (formerly NDDS) is high-performance messaging middleware for the development and integration of applications that require low latency, high throughput, high scalability, deterministic responses and minimal consumption of network, processor and memory resources. RTI Data Distribution Service is an open-architecture platform that complies with the Object Management Group's (OMG's) Data Distribution Service (DDS) for Real-Time Systems standard.
