Mt. Angel, Ore., June 24, 2007—Keeping with a long standing tradition, members of the Mt. Angel Fire Department will take to the streets at the Mt. Angel Annual 4th of July parade during their “Fill-the-Boot” campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Firefighters will walk with the parade asking parade-goers to drop cash into their fire boots to support local families living with neuromuscular diseases. This is the Mt. Angel Fire Department’s first “Fill-the-Boot”.

For over 50 years, the International Association of Fire Fighters has been committed to the eradication of neuromuscular diseases. “Fill-the-Boot” drives are the primary means by which the IAFF has raised nearly $300 million for MDA since 1954.

Money raised by the Mt. Angel Fire Department will help fund local MDA programs and services such as sending children with limited mobility to MDA Summer Camp near Portland and Eugene.

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat more than 40 neuromuscular diseases through worldwide research, comprehensive services and far reaching professional and public health education. For more information about “Fill-the-Boot” or MDA please call Dana Martin at (503) 223-3177.
