NEW DICTATION SYSTEM EXPEDITES URGENT PATHOLOGY CASES

July 01, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Health News
Raigmore Hospital Pathology Department has replaced its analogue-based dictation system with WinScribe digital dictation in the bid to highlight urgent cases by speeding dictation turnaround.

Welgo, a long standing Sales Partner and Business Associate of WinScribe based in Edinburgh, implemented the software. WinScribe allows the author to dictate their reports and send them immediately for transcription. Better productivity is ensured with WinScribe’s inbuilt Workflow Management software designed to speed up the whole dictation/transcription cycle. At any time the user is able to monitor the current status of their work.

Dr Mark Ashton, Consultant Pathologist and head of department at Raigmore Hospital explains, “WinScribe enables us to have a more efficient way of working. It frees lab assistants to work in other areas, instead of having to take notes on lab reports.

It also means Pathologists don’t have to spend precious time dictating from the lab assistant’s notes for secretaries to transcribe. It shortens the entire process, allowing us to highlight urgent cases sooner - this simply wasn’t possible with the old way of working.”

“WinScribe has enabled us to develop a more effective way of working. It has significantly improved the efficiency of the surgical cut up and reduced the time spent dictating the final reports. One of the major benefits is the ability to prioritise and track work once it is in the transcription queue which was very difficult using tapes. It has also improved transcription accuracy”

With the WinScribe system now in place the Pathology Department can step into the digital age and become a much more efficient and cost effective department.
