Magdeburg: LAGOTEC GmbH presented at the 9th symposium on "Bacterial Genomics and Ecology" in Wernigerode, Germany, its newest activities. More than hundreds of scientist and users came together to talk about trends in microbial ecology. Recent advances in a variety of methods have been presented. Further insights into microbial community networks come from advanced microscopic and molecular techniques - how bacterial populations colonise surfaces, communicate with each other, share substrates, interact with their hosts and exchange genetic information.

Noticeable were a lot of interested parties from industry. One issue is how bacteria, slime or biofilm growth in industrial constructions can be measured and stopped before problems occur. This challenge is one of the aims of LAGOTEC GmbH. LAGOTEC started its business with the launch of the DEPOSENS ® Sensor - a system for the detection of microbial deposits in pipes and tanks. Beside this topic another focus of the company is to identify microbial populations to obtain disinfection strategies.

Chief executive officer Lars Teichmann explained: “With this work it is possible to disburden the environment and many companies will save a lot of resources. Especially branches like paper industry and companies with large cooling water systems pay annually millions for biocides and disinfection.
