SuperHolidayRentals say Edinburgh Festival accommodation in short supply

SuperHoldiayRentals, the live worldwide booking engine, are offering accommodation in Edinburgh during the annual Edinburgh Festivals, where a place to stay can be difficult. The annual wave of festivals in Edinburgh, known collectively as the Edinburgh Festival, draw huge crowds each year, but the vast numbers of visitors mean that accommodation is becoming hard to find, claims the holiday booking site.

The festivals bring thousands of visitors to Edinburgh each year, and accommodation is often booked up months in advance. SuperHolidayRentals say that Edinburgh festival flats listed on their booking engine have been extremely popular, and there are now very few properties left for the month of August, with 96% of their Edinburgh properties already booked out for the Edinburgh festival.

"Flats to rent during the Edinburgh Festival always get booked up fast, and this year is no exception", said a spokesman for SuperHolidayRentals.

"We tend to see bookings for Edinburgh festival accommodation commence as early as a year in advance and by spring it can be very difficult to find a flat to rent during August. The Edinburgh festival is such a massive event, and draws such huge crowds, that there just isn't enough accommodation for everyone who wants it".

Contrary to popular belief, the Edinburgh festival is not a single event, but is in fact a collection of almost a dozen different festivals taking place in Scotland's capital during August and early September. The original festival that started it all is the Edinburgh International Festival, which hosts classical and contemporary theatre, opera music and dance, during a three week period in late summer each year.

The festival began in 1947 and right from the start inspired people to put on shows of their own, outside of the official festival programme. These events grew into what became known as the Fringe - which is now the largest arts festival in the world. In addition to this, other festivals became part of the annual event, including the Film Festival, Book Festival, Jazz and Blues Festival, the Military Tattoo, The Edinburgh Mela, Festival of Politics, Art Festival, the Festival of Spirituality and Peace.
