AA rosette restaurant The Maynard in Grindleford teamed up with the Meningitis Trust on Thursday 28 June to hold a fundraising coffee morning. Over 100 people attended from Grindleford, Sheffield and the surrounding areas and almost £350 was raised for The Meningitis Trust. The event was supported by many stallholders including Esporta Sheffield and John Lewis Partnership, both of whom reported brisk trade to their stalls.

Anyone staying on for lunch at The Maynard after the meningitis coffee morning was treated to a complimentary starter or dessert when purchasing a main course, as a thank you for supporting the meningitis event. Liz Downing, marketing manager at The Maynard lost her 12 year old nephew to meningitis only a few weeks ago, and is determined to support the charity in memory of her relative.

Liz said: “Until you are personally touched by meningitis you are unable to comprehend the sudden and devastating effects of the illness. We lost a young relative in just a few short hours from when he returned home from school suffering from nothing more than a slight headache.

”The event was a chance for Meningitis Trust to get their message across and for us to support them in raising much needed funds.”

”The Maynard is also holding a Christmas Ball in December which will also benefit Meningitis Trust. For further details, people can contact me at The Maynard on 01433 630321 or e-mail liz.downing@themaynard.co.uk
