DNA6, an underground hip hop/funk band from Vancouver, Canada, will be performing live at Crankworx in Whistler, BC as part of the nine-day premier world mountain-biking event.

"It is an amazing opportunity to perform up in the mountains in front of such a great crowd," said Alex Maher, saxophonist and one of the three lead singers of the group.

This year's current musical line-up also includes Slackstring, Wasabi Collective, The Sessions, Hey Ocean! and Moka Only.

DNA6's main members are Alex Maher, MC Dosia and M. Prime, each of them some of the best rising talent coming out of Vancouver with a full, 7-piece band backing them up on stage.

The group has just released their second album, Human Condition, in May of this year and the sound is a blend of hip-hop over a jazz-funk fusion of original music. Both Alex and M. Prime have their roots in jazz and were trained by Bryan Stovell, acclaimed tutor of Diana Krall, Alex mainly on saxophone and M. Prime on guitar. MC Dosia is widely
regarded as a well-honed lyricist and, previous to DNA6, worked with DJ Ali of Fresh Studios.

Human Condition's jazz underpinnings and hip-hop overtures are no coincidence considering influences like A Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli, Sade and Miles Davis.

"Hip-hop is now more than simply a style of music," said Alex, "it is a form of expression that has transcended through all types of art and culture."

Previous to DNA6 Alex and Mario were both members of the band Flannel Jimmy which was signed to Nettwerk Records and toured Canada several times with the Proclaimers and Wide Mouth Mason.

DNA6 performs at 3pm July 27 on the mainstage and Crankworx runs from July 21 to 29, 2007.
