Prefix IT (www.prefixit.com) has announced the addition of Critical Alerts (http://www.prefixit.com/index_products.php?id=55), a fifth module in the PrefixNE suite of network management tools, to provide remote management of critical business applications and support business continuity.

The new software enables SMEs to avoid potential business disruption through real-time alerts and powerful drill-down diagnostic tools. The launch makes PrefixNE the market’s most comprehensive real time asset and network management tool specifically designed, built and costed for SMEs.

Using an intuitive graphical interface, key network performance indicators are measured in real time and matched against tailorable, rule-based parameters which are created by network managers. Should any parameters be breeched, automatic alerts will be triggered and delivered either via on-screen pop-ups, email, or where necessary applications exist, by SMS to PDA or other mobile device. Prefix Critical Alerts then allows the network manager to drill down through the network, to individual server and PC level, to diagnose the cause of the problem and take informed action quickly and effectively before performance degradation compromises a business critical application.

Graeme Pitts-Drake, managing director of Prefix IT says: “Maintaining critical business applications is a huge issue for UK SMEs; they are routinely under threat and are least likely to have robust business continuity or disaster recovery plans in place. Prefix Critical Alerts gives them proactive control over their networks to spot potential business disruption and take avoiding action.”

There is no upward limit to the number of rules and these can be set at any level. Historical performance reports can be generated in either graphical or textual format to enable informed analysis and resolution of recurrent problems.

The launch of Critical Alerts is also significant for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) targeting the SME market. They can now benefit from separate network information databases for each client, enabling them to monitor and protect each client's resources separately, from a single central console, reducing risk, saving time and enabling them to deliver improved levels of service across a larger client base.

PrefixNE already includes four modules allowing users to manage and secure hardware and software assets in real time, deploy security patches, software upgrades and virus updates, manage and deploy software licenses, ensure compliance, track software usage, set IT policies, block applications such as P2P, protect data loss from external storage devices, prevent the spread of malicious code and strategically plan for the future based on powerful analysis and reporting.

The software is available immediately and is sold on a subscription basis. Prices are as little as £1 to £2 per PC per month depending on the functionality required.
