Westgate Christian Academy in St. Peters recently received accreditation from the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI). In order to earn this voluntary, five-year accreditation, Westgate Christian Academy met NCA CASI’s quality standards, which included an evaluation by an outside group of professionals. Westgate also implemented a school improvement plan focused on increasing student performance.

NCA CASI is a non-governmental, voluntary organization that accredits more than 8,500 public and private schools in 19 states, the Navajo Nation, and the Department of Defense Dependents’ Schools worldwide.

According to Westgate Christian Academy Principal Peggy Barratt, accreditation assures parents and the general public that the school’s curriculum and related activities are focused on raising student achievement, providing a safe and enriching learning environment, and maintaining an efficient and effective operation.

“This accreditation process underscores our mission at Westgate Christian Academy, which ensures we are focused on the highest quality standards in accordance with the latest research and successful professional practices,” she said.

In addition, Barratt indicated the accreditation process provides educational leaders at all levels of the Westgate organization with much-deserved recognition for going above and beyond the minimum requirements. “Our curriculum encourages children to think and solve problems. We prepare our students with a solid foundation so they are able to compete academically with students from any school. Receiving this accreditation further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to quality and success for all Westgate students,” Barratt added.

Established in 2005, Westgate Christian Academy represents a community of parents, teachers and some 250 students providing social and emotional support for children as they grow academically and spiritually from preschool through eighth grade. Looking ahead to the 2007-2008 school year Westgate currently has openings in Cubs 2, 3, and 4 plus Grades 2, 3, 6, and 7. If you are considering Christian education for your family, arrange to have your child “shadow” a Westgate student for a day.
