SYOSSET, NY – Motion Golf has announced it will name Derwynne Honan, PGA golf professional and television commentator for ESPN’s “Star Sports of Asia,” to the position of director at its new studio in Syosset, NY.

Honan brings to the position over 25 years of experience in golf instruction, management and program development to the revolutionary golf studio. The studio uses three-dimensional imaging technology to create a real-time computerized image of a golfer’s swing to help players on all levels improve their game.

Honan, who has been a commentator for ESPN’s “Star Sports of Asia” since 2005, plans to develop specific programs for men, women and juniors when the Long Island venue opens in July. In his previous youth initiatives in the U.K., Honan recruited players such as Paul Casey and Anthony Wall, both winners on the European Tour.

“The golfers of Long Island are in for the most revolutionary method of coaching ever developed,” Honan says. “Any golfer who is serious about making their game better will do this by using the Motion Golf technology. It’s the only system where seeing and feeling actually happens together, so improvement is dramatic and quick. The course is where the real improvement can be measured!”

Since 1988 Honan has served as a consultant and the global golf professional to the Volvo Global Group. He has recent credits as Tournament Director for all of Volvo’s annual events, including the Volvo PGA Championships, Volvo Masters and Volvo Masters Amateur, as well as a number of international events. In 2006, Honan was made an official brand ambassador for TaylorMade and Adidas Golf.

As a highly-rated instructor with students on both the men’s and women’s European tours, the London native came to understand the challenges faced by both teaching professionals and students alike. Honan says the Motion Golf technology has the ability to make the golfer aware of the slight changes that are so important to understanding the way to play better.

The same technology has been used to make films including The Lord of the Rings trilogy and King Kong. The Motion Golf Analysis system was developed through research in conjunction with TaylorMade, and is useful to golfers of all levels, ranging from professional to amateur to recreational.

The Motion Golf imaging system creates a three-dimensional, real-time video using a combination of high-speed cameras and special gear for the student to use. A golfer can take any type of swing – from driving to putting – and view it from every angle. The golfer can even compare his swing side-by-side with images recorded on the very same system by professionals such as Darren Clarke and Sergio Garcia.

“The golfer not using this technology is really delaying the learning process,” Honan says. “Where seeing, feeling and trusting starts, the golf game can only get better. Motion Golf is the future of golf instruction, with no doubt in my mind.”
