I'On Homes Feature Unusual "Green" Building Material

MT. PLEASANT, S.C.—I'On Build, the new construction division of I'On Group, has completed its first four homes in I'On, an award-winning traditional neighborhood, using a building material unusual for Charleston. All the homes, which are located along one of the canals in I'On, were built with aerated autoclaved concrete (AAC) blocks, an alternative material to concrete masonry units (CMUs), which offers a multitude of energy-saving and weather-resistant benefits.

AAC blocks, created from sand, lime, cement water and a rising agent, are a cool material that does not heat up during Charleston summers. AAC is also rated for 150 mph winds to better withstand major storms. The block has sound-deadening qualities, the highest fire ratings in the industry, a high R value and low U value (indications of energy efficiency), is lighter than CMU and requires less labor. It is also "green," because the block does not generate pollutants or hazardous wastes when it is created. For more information regarding AAC, visit www.aerconaac.com/index.html.

"AAC block is ideal for the Charleston area because of the strength and energy efficient qualities," says Mark Lipsmeyer, chief operating officer for I'On Group. "Because of this, the block is slowly gaining in popularity and I’On Group is excited to be leading the charge in the use of this amazing material in a production environment."

Now available for purchase, the new I'On Build homes range in price from $1,150,000 to $1,320,000. The homes offer views of the canal and both Eastlake and Westlake, rooftop terraces, elevator access, loggias, high ceilings and many high-end features. I'On Build, a division of I'On Group created to construct homes to meet the high-quality standards set by the award-winning I'On neighborhood, will also construct the homes within the new I'On Group development, Mixson, located in the Park Circle area of North Charleston.

I'On, named for South Carolina statesman and war hero Jacob Bond I'On, is an award-winning traditional neighborhood development that combines the best of European city design with that of the Old South. Located in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., just minutes away from historic downtown Charleston, I'On offers the feel of classic urban living with the convenience of suburban living literally steps away. Residents enjoy a host of social, educational and cultural activities through the I'On Trust, a nonprofit specifically dedicated to supporting cultural offerings within the community, as well as through the I'On Club, featuring top-notch tennis, swimming, fitness and classroom facilities.
