OCS WasteLine - the waste management and recycling division of the property support services giant OCS – has found a new home for nearly two hundred chairs destined for a landfill site.

Now the stackable steel and fabric chairs will be put to good use by High Wycombe British Legion after OCS were originally asked to dispose of them during a major refurbishment contract, awarded by High Wycombe Property Management Ltd, at the international healthcare company Johnson & Johnson.

“It’s a fantastic bonus,” said Legion committee member Mike Morris. “We were on the verge of replacing our old, broken wooden chairs and it would have cost us more than £8000. We really appreciate Johnson & Johnson’s kind donation and the role played by OCS WasteLine in finding a new home for the chairs.”

The move came shortly after OCS won the contract for waste disposal and recycling for Johnson & Johnson’s High Wycombe site.

OCS Wasteline managing director, Mike Drake said, “Our business believes in disposing of waste in the most environmentally and socially acceptable way. In this case, we were able to ensure that the chairs get a new lease of life with one of the UK’s most effective and well-respected charities.”

The Royal British Legion was founded in 1921 and provides emotional, financial and social support to millions who serve or have served in the armed forces. More than 10 million people are eligible for their support and the charity receives thousands of calls for help every year.

The OCS group provides a comprehensive range of services from catering and cleaning to security, engineering, hygiene and horticulture services. Its clients include major blue chip companies as well as hospitals and local authorities. It employs 61,000 people across five continents.

OCS chief executive Chris Cracknell said, “This is an excellent example of our group philosophy of going one step further to bring benefits to our clients and the wider community. I am delighted that our team has demonstrated their concern for the environment and their support for a well-deserving charity.”
