North Star Games Shines Bright - WITS & WAGERS Board Game Goes National at Target

Greenbelt, MD – TARGET WAGERS ON NORTH STAR’S WIT. Look to the North Star for this year’s biggest “gotta get” party game, Wits & Wagers. North Star Games announced today that retail giant Target is betting on the company’s new party game, Wits & Wagers, by placing an order to stock the game nationwide in all of its stores starting August 7th.

Wits & Wagers (MSRP $29.99) is North Star’s new follow-up game to its hit game Cluzzle. Wits & Wagers is the Games Magazine 2007 Party Game of the Year; has been dubbed by Time Magazine as “…the latest in living-room play.”; and is the About.com pick as “the best trivia game of all time”. The game is designed for 4 – 20 players ages 10 and up and can be taught in 2 minutes, making it a great activity at family gatherings and holiday parties.

Building on the tremendous success of its 2006 sell-out test market, Wits & Wagers will soon be available nationally through an exclusive relationship with Target. What is the game’s secret? Wits & Wagers is the first trivia game you can win without knowing any trivia. To play, everyone writes down a guess to fun questions such as “How tall is Sesame Street’s Big Bird?” or “How many feet wide is an NFL football field?” or “How many bones are in the adult human body?” or “In what year did the bikini swimsuit makes its first appearance?”

All of the guesses are placed face-up on a betting mat, then players bet on the answer they think is closest to being right. The beauty is that players do not have to bet on their own guess. Instead, they can bet on the player they think is the expert. To make things exciting, the more outrageous answers have bigger payouts. Players can win by making educated guesses, by knowing the interests of their friends, or by playing the odds.

The buzz around Wits & Wagers continues to grow, after winning 11 prestigious industry awards during its test market print run. “We’re thrilled with the remarkable success of Wits & Wagers,” said North Star Games founder and game inventor Dominic Crapuchettes. “Winning awards from such diverse sources as Games Magazine, Mensa Select, and the National Parenting Center shows how a great game can bring people of differing ages and interests together.”

About North Star Games:
Founded in 2004 by two University of Maryland MBA graduates, North Star Games is a living room startup run by Dominic Crapuchettes and Satish Pillalamarri. Their goal is to inspire creativity, laughter and cheering through designer games that engage and enrich the mind. The company prides itself on bringing innovation to an increasingly stagnant party game market that relies on Hollywood licenses instead of fresh game ideas.

One of North Star Games’ most popular innovations is removing turns from their games. “Waiting for your turn is boring,” says Crapuchettes, “so our games don’t have them. Instead, we find activities that are inherently fun and build a game around that activity, so that everyone is always participating in the action.”
