THREE Police Community Support Officers are taking time off pounding the beat to run for a local charity.

PCSOs Anna Maher, 22, Denise Lockyer, 37 and Gaynor Cahill-Capewell, 40, are taking part in the London Hydro Active 5km run for Round Table Children’s Wish.

“We’ve been making efforts to get to know the community better and, when we popped into the charity offices in Moordown to introduce ourselves, we heard about the run and decided to take part”, said Gaynor.

She added: “We’re happy to be supporting such a great charity – we’ll run as much as we can but when I collapse I’ll start walking!

“It’s been great getting to know RTCW. In the course of our work if we come across children with life threatening illnesses we’ll certainly put them in touch.”

The girls are issuing a challenge to their colleagues at Winton Police Station: “cough up or take part.”

London Hydro Active takes place in Hyde Park on Sunday September 16.

Anna is also supporting the charity in the forthcoming 10-mile Great South Run on Sunday October 28.

Round Table Children’s Wish – a charity granting wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses – is appealing for more runners to take part in their forthcoming running events. For further information or to sponsor the PCSOs call 01202 514515.
