For the first time in 30 years 25 lacrosse players will represent Nova Scotia at the Founders Cup Junior National Box Lacrosse Championships being held this year in Saskatoon August 23-30. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in North America mainly due to the popularity of the National and Major Lacrosse Leagues and teams like the Toronto Rock and Arizona Sting. Nova Scotia is no exception and is experiencing tremendous growth in players and fan participation.

The Founders Cup will expose the All-Star Nova Scotia team of 16 to 20 year olds to one of the most prestigious national lacrosse tournaments in Canada. The championship draws some of the most talented lacrosse players in the country. A number of future National and Major Lacrosse League players will be here showcasing themselves to scouts, hoping to move up to the professional league.

“Our goal is to be competitive and have our players build on the experience,” said Blair Parsons, Team Manager “We are the only team east of Ontario of the 15 teams attending the championship. Ontario and British Columbia are the hotbeds of lacrosse in Canada and are perennial winners of the Founders Cup. To play in a lacrosse tournament of this calibre is a thrill of a lifetime for these boys and will encourage them to pursue college, senior and even professional teams. Our younger players will also be motivated to work hard to make future Nova Scotia Junior Provincial teams.” Parsons said.

An exhibition game between an all-star Nova Scotia senior team and the Nova Scotia Provincial Junior team is being organized to allow the media and fans to see the team in action.
