Aardvark Music mixes it up with Mixsic

August 26, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Entertainment News
Aardvark Music has today announced another precedent setting deal involving the online video and audio mixing company Mixsic.

Aardvark is one of the first labels to strike a deal with the US-based Mixsic. Aardvark Records’ video catalogue, along with selected music, will be available for collaborative mixing, remixing and sharing through Mixsic’s groundbreaking platform www.mixsic.com, designed for music videos, which will be officially launched mid-September.

YouTube (and Flash Video) revolutionized online video - similar to how Netscape (and HTML) revolutionized the Web - making it easy to browse and view what you are looking for. The ease of sharing videos virally online cemented YouTube and similar services enjoyed by millions online. Mixsic users’ ability to take a video, remix it and then add the audio, and either create their own Mixsic Channel or share their unique remixed creation with friends in a social networking environment allows Mixsic’s entertainment proposition to stand out from the crowd. Users can also embed Mixsic videos on websites/blogs and, in the near future, also view them on portable devices.

Before you can say ‘copyright management’, Mixsic's developers have included features that allow labels and artists to set permissions for any content they upload. Some bands, for instance, might want to select which songs and images are made available for public video-making. All in all, the labels and artists have complete control over the material that can be used by fans to create videos.

Alex di Savoia, a director of Aardvark, said: “The concept is as clever as it is fun. And fun is what something like this should be all about. It also enables Aardvark to bring its catalogue of music and videos to new audiences through the best possible route – word of mouth. People already share music and videos with their friends online. They are even more likely to share something that they have had a hand in creating themselves. The in-built media protection levels allows the content owners to decide to what degree that sharing will be, which is important for artists or labels who want to play it say.”

Bernardo Rodríguez, Mixsic´s CEO is thrilled to have Aardvark´s artist roster on Mixsic and said: “Aardvark´s track record of innovation and creativity will help Mixsic take user interaction to a new level. We appreciate the talent that all music fans have to give and are happy to be able to collaborate with music artists in the creation of great multimedia.”

For Aardvark Music, the deal with Mixsic is the latest in a series of groundbreaking digital entertainment ventures, including high profile online partnerships. Last year, Aardvark was one of the first music companies to embrace the power of user-generated content by signing video distribution and revenue partnerships with ROO TV as well as distributing its videos through YouTube and then Google Video. Subsequent ventures include Facebook, Dailymotion and Last FM.
