Raleigh, NC- Fred Adams, Jr., Vice President of Fred Adams Paving Company, has announced that the American Tobacco Historic District Renovation Project in Durham, NC was selected as the 2007 Best in Class Gold Medal Winner awarded by the Brick Industry Association. Fred Adams Paving Company was the Hardscape Contractor on this award-winning project.

“The American Tobacco Historic District Renovation Project presented a lot of interesting challenges for each of the firms involved in the design and building,” said Adams. “Together, we were able to create an antique appearance with modern durability that preserved the historic appeal of the American Tobacco Historic District.”

Fred Adams Paving Company utilized clay pavers, including rumbled pavers throughout the project to tie new and old together. Their goal was to tie all elements of the American Tobacco campus together.

“Finding a material that could be used throughout was essential to the success of the design,” said Adams. “The clay pavers provided the antique appearance that preserved the project’s historic integrity.”

For the American Tobacco Historic District Renovation Project, Landscape Architecture/Civil Engineering was provided by Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart and Assoc.; development by Capitol Broadcast Company and The Keith Corporation; General Contracting services provided by Bovis Lend Lease and Hardscape Contracting was completed by Fred Adams Paving Company.
