Over 24% of golfers expose themselves!

September 07, 2007 (PRLEAP.COM) Business News
A recent survey conducted by Golfshield, the online golf insurance provider revealed that over 24% of golfers exposed themselves to unnecessary risk by not having suitable golf equipment insurance.

But the risks don’t end with theft or damage. It is now widely acknowledged that golfers are personally liable for any injuries or damage inflicted upon fellow golfers or members of the public.

Golfshield’s results showed that 30% of golfers surveyed rely on their home contents policy to provide cover, however home contents policies may not be the best solution for many golfers. Few offer third party liability insurance, excesses may be high and there may be limits on the value of equipment. Some home contents insurers will also only cover golf equipment within the home, with others insisting on greater security precautions and restrictions on use.

It seems that the message regarding insurance is hitting home however, 17% of the golfers surveyed thought that they should be insured but hadn’t made arrangements yet, while just 9% didn’t see the point in golf equipment insurance, an opinion likely to change should they be the victim of theft in the future.

Golfshield clearly have an interest in these figures, “It’s about raising awareness of the dangers that golfers face and the insurance options they have. We’ve always taken the view to help not sell and try to educate golfers to the risks they face whether insured or not,” says Giles Rees, Marketing Director
