NEW SERVICE IS JUST THE JOB FOR PROPERTY PEOPLE

A SUCCESSFUL entrepreneur has launched the country’s first recruitment agency dedicated to the property letting sector.

Jobs In Letting fills a much needed gap in the market using experienced personnel in order to match first-class employees with suitable jobs in a complex industry.

As well as being managed by people who have a combined experience of more than 30 years in the letting industry, Jobs In Letting is also able draw on the excellent relations founder Thomas Ashdown has built up through his flagship venture Citylets, Scotland’s number one letting portal for residential property.

Thomas said: “I was aware that there was considerable dissatisfaction with the agencies that were trying to place candidates into this sector. My own experience had been less than positive too but this business opportunity was identified years before that as a natural progression.

Jobs In Letting, which will recruit personnel in all areas of property letting and factoring, intends to be distinct in its field by virtue of three underlying founding principles.

Thomas said: “We don’t poach candidates from other clients that we serve. It’s no way to run a business long term. Nor are our consultants on commission as that creates a fundamental conflict of interest between consultant and client which underpins much of the negativity surrounding placements.”

As a final differentiator, Thomas claims that his business will not hide behind notorious ‘get out’ clauses.

He added: “When a client engages JIL, they are looking for expertise in matching a candidate to a roll. If it transpires that we did not adequately apply that expertise, we will acknowledge that and act accordingly. My experience suggests this seems to be an industry where the client has little contractual protection for full refund if the agency simply fails to provide the required standards.”

Jobs In Letting is already proving extremely popular with letting agencies and its policy of using both technology and industry experience to match up employees with suitable roles has been successful.

Karel Broughton, Managing Director with leading Edinburgh-based residential letting agents Braemore Property Management, said: "Our industry is complex and having a dedicated agency with experience and expertise will be a bonus to this sector. That's exactly the kind of partner we need for our business.”
Gillian Tolmie, a job candidate that has used Jobs in Letting, said: "If you want to work in the lettings industry, Jobs in Letting is the only place you will ever need to go.”
As well as running Citylets, which advertises more than 25,000 properties every year and last year expanded into Northern Ireland, Thomas is also the creator of commercial office portal Cityoffices.

These businesses have seen him build a huge network of contacts in both residential and commercial property letting.

He added: “Both Citylets and Cityoffices are internet based businesses and I was keen to diversify from online commercial enterprises and broaden my entrepreneurial scope.”
