Cutting Edge Technology To Make Living in Portofino Easier

(Clayton, NC) September 15, 2007 —-The Walthom Group of Clayton, developer of Portofino, has reached an agreement with its builders to provide Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) technology to every home in the new community. A service of EMBARQ, FTTP will provide fiber optic cable directly into every home in the Portofino neighborhood. FTTP will allow for greater bandwidth to support high-speed services for today’s homes and for decades into the future.

FTTP is designed to provide communications in the form of modulated light over hair-thin strands of very pure glass rather than signals over copper cables. Since the feature will be installed in the home during initial construction, there will be no need to access the fiber and disturb existing landscape when applying upgrades in the future.

Fiber optic systems give residents the advantage of improved safety, immunity to electrical noise, signal security and electrical isolation. A Smart Box will be installed in each Portofino home which will allow homeowners to have quick access to online needs.

“Our goal is to make Portofino the most advanced, state-of-the-art community in Johnston County,” said Norwood Thompson of the Walthom Group. “Portofino is the first community in the county to have this technology, and we look forward to working with EMBARQ to get everything up and running. Whatever communication advancements are discovered in the future, our residents will be able to immediately take advantage of the technology without disruption to their property.”

Portofino residents will also be able to save money by combining their home phone, wireless and high-speed Internet services; on one simple EMBARQ account with the convenience and savings of one low monthly bill.

Sales of Portofino will be handled by HomeTowne Realty of Clayton. The on-site Sales Center is scheduled to open in fall 2007.
